Facebook and Instagram saw $200 billion of its market value vanish into thin air late Wednesday and early Thursday.  By comparison, $200 billion is more than the entire market value of companies like Netflix, McDonald's, Morgan Stanley, and AT&T — or the value of General Motors, Uber and Barclays combined.  Analysts have attributed the shocking wipeout to several trends, but chief among them is the fact that Facebook's user base has shrunk for the first time in the company's history. But Facebook has been dying for several years... March, 2018: Cambridge Analytica scandal breaks. April, 2018: Mark Zuckerberg appears on Capitol Hill. August, 2018: Facebook removes targeting options. July, 2019: Facebook fined $5B for privacy violations. July 2020: Facebook part of antitrust probe. October, 2021: Site goes down globally for 5+ hours. November, 2021: Facebook removes thousands of targeting options. This is why I tell coaches and course creators to never rely too much on platforms like Facebook to get customers. If more than 25% of your business comes from Facebook, you are overexposed.
